Workshop Software Management by Numbers (24 September 2009)
We manage things “by the numbers” in many aspects of our lives. These numbers give us insight and help steer our actions. Software metrics extend the concept of “managing by the numbers” into the realm of software development. The software industry still isn't doing a very good job at managing by the numbers.
Oftentimes, software projects are managed by just three metrics:
project schedule and effort and critical defects found during testing.
This is a flatland view for a multi-dimensional terrain problem: "flying a plane using only a watch and a fuel gauge". Many other useful metrics are ignored, but must be in the equation as well. They represent what will be built, how it is built and the expected quality of the final outcome.
16 best practise KPIs
Sioux Embedded Systems and SE-CURE would like to invite you to a workshop that will help you to understand how your software development capability can be measured. The introduced used set of 16 best practice Key Performance Indicators will also allow for benchmarking your performance against average and best-in-class industry values.
Focus on excercises and quantitative techniques
This workshop is taught through (limited) lecture and interactive discussion. Actual examples from the software industry are utilized to make the information relevant. The focus is on team exercises (using one case study), in which learned skills are practiced. Solutions to all exercises will be provided. At the end of the workshop you will be ready to introduce the techniques learnt to immediately improve the results in your own environment.
Partnership SE-CURE and Sioux
Sioux Embedded Systems and SE-CURE have recently set up a partnership to introduce related services in the area of “software management by numbers” to the Dutch and Belgian markets. For more information please read the press release.
